I wanted to share with you a firm family favourite that I have managed to at least take a picture off before the mad rush for everyone getting home to eat me out of house and home…. My take on my childhood favourite , stuffed cabbage (Golabki).
- 1 Savoy cabbage
- 2 packs of turkey mince
- 4 medium sized mushrooms
- 2 cloves on garlic
- Half a pack of microwave rice (I used Tesco 2min rice)
- 1 egg
- 7 shakes of Maggie hot liquid seasoning
- 1 tables spoon of vegetable boullion
- 1 table spoon of marjoram
- 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
Take about 8 leaves off the cabbage and put them in a pan of salted cold water, put on a low heat with the lid on for about 7 mins or until they are tender.
Chop the garlic fine and dice the mushrooms fairly small so they cook evenly.
Put the turkey mince in a bowl and all the garlic, mushrooms, marjoram, liquid seasoning, rice, egg and the boullion and mix so everything is even and there are no lumps of turkey unmixed.
Meanwhile drain the cabbage and run under cold water to stop the cooking process. Once cool enough to touch, blot each leaf to get rid of any moisture.
Lay each cabbage leaf out one by one and use a heaped table spoon of mixture in each leaf.
HOW TO ROLL:
Tuck the sides of the cabbage in to the mixture and then roll from the stem of the cabbage upwards so that the stem is inside the cabbage roll and place on a casserole dish.
Once all the rolls have been made and place in the dish, pour a can of chopped tomatoes over each roll and all a quarter of a can of water so that it creates steam when cooking.
Cool for 30 mins at gas mark 230, halfway through add some grated cheese on top for a little bite.
